Obverse description Laureate bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, depicted with characteristic strong facial features and short curled hair beneath the laurel wreath. The bust is draped and cuirassed, rendered in the confident, naturalistic style of Trajanic imperial portraiture. A circular legend runs around the periphery of the flan, beginning at the left and continuing around the right. The portrait is boldly struck in high relief, occupying the central field of the coin.

(Translation: Imperator Traiano Augustus, Germanicus, Dacicus, Pontifex Maximus, Tribunicia Potestate, Consul Quintum, Pater Patriae. Supreme commander (Imperator), of Trajan, emperor (Augustus), conqueror of the Germans, conqueror of the Dacians, high priest, holder of tribunician power, consul for the fifth time, father of the nation.)
Reverse description The goddess Pax seated left on a throne or chair, her figure rendered in a relaxed, classical pose. She holds an olive branch extended forward in her right hand and a sceptre or cornucopiae in her left. The figure is robed in flowing drapery consistent with Trajanic reverse iconography. The circular legend S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI is distributed around the field, dedicating the coin to Trajan as the best of princes on behalf of the Senate and Roman people.
