| Beschrijving keerzijde | Standing figure of the Genius of the Roman People, depicted nude save for a chlamys draped over the left arm, facing left in a contrapposto stance. The Genius holds a patera in the extended right hand, ready for libation, and a cornucopia in the left arm, symbolizing abundance and divine favour. A small altar may be discerned at the figure's feet. The encircling legend S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI, arranged around the field, frames the composition in a dedicatory formula honouring Trajan as the optimus princeps. The reverse type is characteristic of the extensive SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI series struck at Rome during Trajan's Dacian campaigns. |
