| Beschrijving keerzijde | Radiate and draped bust of Sol facing right, with two characteristic locks of hair falling loosely down the neck, a detail distinctive of this reverse type. The solar deity is depicted in a stylized divine portrait, the radiate crown rendered with projecting spikes. The reverse legend, distributed around the field, references Trajan's full titulature and senatorial dedication. The overall composition is consistent with Roman divine bust reverses of the early second century AD. |

Struck to commemorate Trajan's Parthian campaign, which began in 114 AD with the annexation of Armenia — Rome's first formal acquisition of that kingdom. The title PARTHICO appearing in the legend dates this issue to after the Senate awarded Trajan the honorific, making it among the earliest coins to carry it. The campaign ultimately overextended Roman supply lines so severely that Hadrian quietly abandoned the newly seized eastern territories almost immediately upon his accession in 117.
