Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, with the emperor's characteristic strong, mature features rendered in high relief. The bust is shown with paludamentum (military cloak) fastened at the right shoulder, conveying imperial and military authority. A finely detailed laurel wreath crowns the head. The encircling legend runs from the lower left around the upper periphery in crisp Latin capitals. The portrait is executed in the accomplished, naturalistic style characteristic of the Rome Mint under Trajan's reign.
