Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Trajan facing right, with finely rendered hair beneath the laurel wreath and a hint of drapery visible at the left shoulder. The effigy is executed in high relief, characteristic of the accomplished die-cutters of the Rome mint under Trajan. The encircling legend runs from the lower left around the periphery of the flan, framing the imperial portrait. The coin presents the typical slightly irregular, hand-struck flan characteristic of Roman hammered coinage of this period.
