| Obverse description | Laureate bust of Emperor Trajan facing right, rendered in high relief with fine naturalistic detail characteristic of Trajanic portraiture. The emperor is depicted with short, neatly combed hair beneath a laurel wreath, the neck truncation clearly defined. The surrounding field carries the circular Latin legend reading IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM, distributed around the full periphery of the flan. The die work reflects the accomplished craftsmanship of the Rome Mint at the outset of Trajan's reign. |
