Scattered around him on the ground are captured barbarian arms and armour — including a shield, curved falx, and other spoils of war — arranged in the field to either side. The composition is a powerful propagandistic statement of Roman military triumph, executed in the restrained yet expressive style of Trajanic reverse types. The encircling legend occupies the upper and lower periphery of the flan. |
