Struck in 76 AD when Titus held his fifth consulship alongside his father Vespasian, this denarius belongs to a tightly dated group issued before Titus became sole emperor in 79. The Flavian dynasty was still consolidating legitimacy won at sword-point in the civil wars of 69, and the consulships of Titus served as deliberate public reinforcement of dynastic continuity — a son visibly sharing the machinery of Roman office.
RIC II.1 1482 is among the issues attributable to the Rome mint under Vespasian's reign, with Titus named in the obverse legend as Caesar rather than Augustus.
