| Reverse description | A solemn oath-taking scene depicting four armed soldiers, two positioned on each side, all pointing their swords downward toward a pig held by a kneeling youth at the center — a ritual suovetaurilia sacrifice binding the alliance in a sworn military compact. The composition is vigorous and crowded, reflecting the urgency and collective resolve of the Italian confederate cause. In the exergue, the retrograde Oscan legend C·PAAPII·C identifies the issuing magistrate as C. Papius C.f., one of the principal commanders of the Italic confederation. The scene closely mirrors diplomatic and military oath iconography known from Italic artistic tradition. |
