| 裏面の説明 | Two legionary aquila (eagle standards) flank a central scene comprising a small tetrastyle structure or altar, over which a spread-winged eagle descends bearing a wreath in its beak, symbolising divine favour and Roman military power. The standards are each topped with decorated disc finials. The legend SIGNA is inscribed in the exergue in bold Roman capitals, with the letter P R distributed in the field to either side of the right-hand standard, reading in full SIGNA P R (Signa Populi Romani — Standards of the Roman People). The overall composition is a bold propagandistic statement of Roman military and civic identity during the turbulent civil war period. |
