| 裏面の説明 | The legend S P Q R is inscribed within a prominent oak wreath (corona civica), the individual leaves rendered in detail around the central text. A small annulet appears at the top of the wreath, serving as a decorative terminal. The wreath, symbolic of civic virtue and senatorial authority, occupies the entire reverse field, with no additional imagery. The beaded border of the flan frames the composition. This reverse type reflects the brief reassertion of Republican ideals during the turbulent succession crises of AD 68–69. |

This denarius falls within the catastrophic Year of the Four Emperors, struck under Galba, Otho, Vitellius, or in the transitional mint activity surrounding their successive reigns — the RIC I 73A attribution places it within Galba's output, likely from a Spanish or Gallic mint rather than Rome itself. Galba had relied on provincial mints heavily during his march on Rome following Nero's suicide in June 68 AD.
Silver content in issues from this period was already degraded from Neronian debasement, a problem Galba notoriously attempted to claw back by recalling debased coins — a policy that accelerated the financial resentment contributing to his murder in January 69.
