Beschrijving keerzijde	The abbreviated legend S P Q R — Senatus Populusque Romanus — is prominently displayed in the centre of the field, enclosed within a finely rendered oak wreath (corona civica) whose densely overlapping leaves are tied at the base and surmounted by a pellet-in-ring ornament at the apex. The oak wreath, a symbol of civic honour granted to Augustus for saving the lives of citizens, serves here as a powerful emblem of Roman state authority. The field within the wreath is otherwise plain, focusing full attention on the senatorial legend. The overall design is austere and deliberately monumental in character.
