| 裏面の説明 | A winged thunderbolt (fulmen), the attribute of Jupiter, depicted upright in the central field with stylized wings spreading laterally from the central shaft and volutes at either end. The thunderbolt is rendered with bold, deeply cut lines characteristic of the hammered coinage of the Triumviral period. The surrounding legend Q•SALVIVS•IMP•COS•DESIG, naming the moneyer Quintus Salvidienus Rufus in his capacity as imperator and consul designate, is disposed around the periphery. The design is enclosed within a border of dots. |

Quintus Salvidienus Rufus was one of Octavian's most trusted generals — appointed to command forces in Gaul and given responsibilities that placed him among the inner circle of the future Augustus. He never struck coin again. In 40 BC, the same year this denarius was issued, he was accused of secretly negotiating with Mark Antony and condemned for treason by the Senate, reportedly on Octavian's own denunciation. He died before trial, almost certainly by suicide.
His is among the very few names erased so thoroughly from Octavian's orbit that no subsequent honorific survived him.
