Gaius Postumius issued this denarius under his authority as moneyer, one of the three annual tresviri monetales appointed to oversee mint production in Rome. The TA in the inscription almost certainly references Tarentum, suggesting either a mint operation at that southern Italian city or a distribution connection to it — a detail still debated among specialists working the late Republican series.
Crawford dated the issue to 74 BC, squarely within the period of Rome's Third Mithridatic War, when the treasury was under sustained pressure financing multiple active fronts simultaneously.
