Obverse description Bare head of the dictator Lucius Cornelius Sulla, consul of 88 BC, facing right, rendered with individualistic portrait features consistent with late Republican verism. The legend SVLLA•COS appears before the portrait in the field, identifying the subject as Sulla in his consular capacity. The truncation of the neck is plain and unadorned. A border of dots frames the design along the periphery.
