| Beschrijving keerzijde | A hexastyle temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus on the Capitoline Hill is depicted in frontal elevation, with six columns supporting an elaborately ornamented entablature and pediment. The roofline is surmounted by a quadriga at the apex flanked by a biga on each side, with armed figures standing on either side of the apex acroteria. Within the pediment, an uncertain figure or emblem is discernible. Between the four central columns, hanging decorative garlands or votive objects are represented. On some specimens the letters S F or F S appear across the fields, interpreted as Sacra Facienda or a related sacrificial formula. The composition is enclosed by a border of dots. |
