| Beschrijving voorzijde | Laureate and draped bust of Pescennius Niger facing right, rendered in the provincial Syrian style characteristic of the Antioch mint. The emperor's effigy is depicted with a laurel wreath encircling the head, with paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The surrounding legend is distributed evenly around the circumference of the flan. The strike is somewhat irregular, consistent with the hasty production of coinage during a usurpation, and the portrait exhibits the slightly crude engraving typical of this short-lived issue. |
