| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Pescennius Niger facing right, rendered in the provincial style characteristic of the Antioch mint. The portrait displays a bearded effigy with curling hair beneath the laurel wreath, typical of the short-lived usurper's coinage. The surrounding legend IMP CAES C PESC NIGER IVST AVG is distributed around the periphery of the flan. The die work exhibits the slightly coarser engraving quality associated with eastern mint production during the civil war period of 193–194 AD. The flan is irregular in shape, as is common with hastily produced issues of this usurpation. |
