| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Pescennius Niger facing right, rendered in the provincial style characteristic of the Antioch mint. The emperor is depicted with a broad, somewhat idealized portrait showing curly hair beneath the laurel wreath and a short beard. The encircling Latin legend reads IMP CAES C PESC NIGER IUST AVG, distributed around the bust within a fine beaded border. The die-cutting reflects the comparatively rough workmanship typical of this usurper's emergency coinage, with somewhat uneven relief. The truncation of the neck is visible at the lower field. |
