| Obverse description | Laureate head of Pescennius Niger facing right, rendered in the provincial Syrian style characteristic of this usurper's brief coinage. The portrait displays the emperor's characteristic features with a laurel wreath encircling the head, the individual rays of the wreath visible above the brow. The surrounding legend runs clockwise from the lower left in Latin capital letters. The flan is irregular and slightly rough, consistent with the hastily produced coinage of a usurper's mint operating under wartime conditions. |
