Reverse description Two right hands clasped in a dextrarum iunctio, symbolizing concord and agreement, with a winged caduceus rising vertically between and above the joined hands. The caduceus, attribute of Mercury and emblem of peace and commerce, is depicted with wings spread at the top and intertwined serpents on the staff. The legend PAX P R is divided across the lower field, with P and R flanking the junction of the hands and PAX inscribed in the exergue. The composition conveys the political message of peace and unity during the turbulent civil war period of AD 68–69.
