Obverse description Bare head of Emperor Otho facing right, depicted with characteristic curly hair rendered in fine relief. The portrait presents a naturalistic imperial effigy consistent with the brief Flavian transitional period. The surrounding legend reads IMP OTHO CAESAR AVG TR P, distributed around the coin's periphery in incuse Latin capitals. The flan is irregular in shape, as is typical of hastily produced early imperial hammered coinage. The field is smooth and lightly worn.
