Beschrijving voorzijde Laureate bust of Emperor Nerva facing right, draped at the shoulder, rendered in the realistic portraiture style characteristic of Flavian and Nervan imperial coinage. The emperor is depicted as an elderly man with aged, somewhat gaunt facial features, consistent with his known portraits. The encircling Latin legend runs clockwise around the periphery of the flan, separated from the bust by a beaded border. The die work, though competent, reflects the modest artistic output of the brief Nervan reign.

Aanvullende informatie

Nerva's fourth consulship in 98 AD was also the final months of his reign — he died in January of that year after just sixteen months as emperor, the shortest reign of the Five Good Emperors. RIC II 47 is among the last issues struck under his authority, and the abbreviated tenure of his mint production means survival rates are genuinely lower than comparable Trajanic types struck in the same workshops shortly after.
