Obverse description Laureate and bearded head of Nero facing right, rendered in the characteristic late Neronian portrait style with distinctly thick neck and elaborate coiffure. The emperor's effigy displays a full beard, a defining feature of his later coinage from AD 64 onward. The circumferential legend runs around the periphery of the flan in incuse Latin characters. The portrait is boldly modelled in high relief, consistent with the artistic conventions of the Roman Imperial mint at Rome during this period.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering IMP NERO CAESAR AVGVSTVS
(Translation: Supreme commander Nero Caesar, emperor.)
