| Obverse lettering | IMP NERO CAESAR AVGVSTVS (Translation: Supreme commander Nero Caesar, emperor.) |
| Reverse description | The personification of Salus, draped and seated left upon an elaborately decorated throne, extends her right hand to present a patera in a gesture of offering, while her left hand rests upon the side of the throne. Salus, the goddess of health, safety, and the well-being of the Roman state, is depicted in a serene and formal pose befitting her divine status. The reverse field is relatively plain, focusing attention on the enthroned figure. The abbreviated legend SALVS is placed prominently in the field, identifying the deity. This type reflects Nero's propagandistic emphasis on imperial health and the prosperity of the Roman people. |

Struck in the years immediately following the Great Fire of Rome, this issue belongs to a phase when Nero's coinage was already degraded from Augustus-era standards — the silver content had been dropping steadily since early in his reign, part of a deliberate debasement that financed his building program, including the Domus Aurea begun on the fire's ruins. The SALVS type invoked public health and the safety of the state at a moment when Nero's grip on political legitimacy was visibly fraying.
Within two years of this striking, the Year of the Four Emperors would begin.
