Struck in 39 BC under the terms of the Pact of Misenum, this joint issue between Mark Antony and Octavian commemorated a brief, uneasy reconciliation with Sextus Pompey that gave each triumvir room to consolidate power. The agreement collapsed within two years. Antony was operating from his eastern commands at the time, and the pairing of his name with Octavian's on a single coin reflects the fragile collegial fiction both men were still maintaining before the rupture that ended in Actium.
