The fallen warrior holds a shield in his left hand and brandishes a sword in his right, conveying fierce resistance even in defeat. The moneyer's identification legend III VIR A•LICINIVS is distributed across the field, with the triumviral designation at left and the moneyer's name at right. The composition is vigorous and deeply cut, consistent with the finest traditions of late Republican historical denarius reverse imagery. A border of dots encircles the scene. |
