正面描述 Diademed and draped bust of Venus facing right, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic style favoured in late Republican coinage. The goddess wears a stephane or diadem, with hair arranged in a characteristic flowing manner. The encircling legend is disposed around the periphery of the flan, reading C•CAESAR IMP•COS•ITER. The field is flat and the design is contained within a border of dots.

附加信息

Aulus Allienus struck this issue in Sicily as propraetor while Caesar, fresh from his Egyptian entanglement and the Pontic campaign that produced the famous "veni, vidi, vici" dispatch, held his second consulship. The coin's dual authority — Caesar as imperator and consul, Allienus as his deputy in the west — reflects the administrative improvisation of a republic whose institutions were being quietly hollowed out from within.

Allienus later defected to the Pompeian cause, which lends this otherwise unremarkable provincial issue a certain biographical irony.
