| Obverse description | The obverse depicts four emblems of the pontificate arranged in the field: a simpulum (ladle) to the left, an aspergillum (sprinkler) at center-left, a securis (axe) at center-right, and an apex (pontifical cap) to the right. These priestly instruments are rendered in a bold, high-relief style characteristic of military mint coinage, and collectively allude to Caesar's office as Pontifex Maximus. The field is plain with no legend, and the coin is bordered by a beaded (dentilated) rim. |
