| Obverse description | Diademed head of Venus facing right, rendered in the classical Republican style as originally struck under the moneyer Gaius Norbanus (83 BC). The goddess displays fine facial features with hair drawn up and secured by a diadem, the portrait occupying the central field. The encircling legend is partially visible around the periphery, with the moneyer's name C NORBANVS legible in the lower portion of the field and the numeral reference CC III above. This is a restitution type struck under Trajan, faithfully reproducing the original Republican die design. |
