| Beschrijving keerzijde | A togated male figure, identified as Gaius Marius, seated or striding to the left while driving a yoke of two oxen leftward across a ground line, a scene evoking the Roman agrarian and founding tradition. Above the central type in the field appears LXXV, referencing the restored coin series number. In the exergue, the legend C MARI C F is inscribed, identifying the original moneyer Gaius Marius, son of Gaius, while S C appears below, indicating senatorial authority. The encircling obverse legend on the reverse rim reads IMP CAES TRAIAN AVG GER DAC P P REST, attributing the restitution to Emperor Trajan. The composition faithfully reproduces the Republican denarius type of C. Marius, ca. 81 BC, as part of Trajan's celebrated series of restored coins. |
