Obverse description Bare-headed, laureate and bearded bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered with the characteristic Hellenistic-style portraiture adopted during his reign. The effigy displays finely engraved hair and a full beard, a hallmark of Hadrianic coinage distinguishing it from earlier imperial portraits. The surrounding circular legend, struck in raised Latin capitals, runs along the coin's periphery. The flan is irregular in shape, as typical of hand-struck Roman silver coinage of the early second century AD.
