Hadrian's TRANQVILLITAS coinage belongs to a deliberate propaganda campaign following his abandonment of Trajan's eastern conquests — a politically explosive decision that required sustained messaging to reframe retreat as wisdom. The COS III dating places this issue after 119 AD, when Hadrian entered his third consulship, but the 128–129 window specifically corresponds with his extended tour of the eastern provinces, during which he was largely absent from Rome and increasingly cultivating an image of philosophical stability over military aggression.
