| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate and draped bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, with his characteristic short beard rendered in fine, carefully articulated curls. The emperor's hair is depicted in wavy, deeply engraved locks swept across the crown in the distinctive Hadrianic philhellenic style. The bust is of good artistic quality, presenting a strong, idealised imperial portrait. The surrounding Latin legend reads HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS, disposed around the periphery of the flan, with a beaded border visible on portions of the rim. |
