Hadrian stands in military dress, extending imperial patronage in a compositional type known as the 'restitutor' series, celebrating his grand tour of the provinces. The circumferential legend RESTITVTORI HISPANIAE, meaning 'To the restorer of Hispania', encircles the scene within a beaded border. The field is relatively flat and unadorned, focusing attention on the figural group.
