| Obverse description | Bare-shouldered, laureate and bearded bust of Hadrian facing right, rendered with finely detailed hair and a short, curly beard characteristic of the emperor's Hellenising portraiture. The effigy is depicted in high relief with naturalistic modelling of the facial features, neck, and drapery folds at the truncation. The circular Latin legend runs clockwise around the periphery of the flan. The portrait exemplifies the refined classicising style introduced under Hadrian and marks a departure from the clean-shaven tradition of his predecessors. |
