Reverse description Hadrian seated left upon a raised tribunal platform, leaning forward as if writing or distributing tokens; behind him stands a figure of Liberalitas, facing front and holding a coin scoop (tessera) and cornucopia, symbolising imperial generosity. In the foreground, a citizen ascends the steps of the platform, extending the fold of his toga to receive the congiarium. An attendant figure stands or mounts the rear steps of the platform behind the emperor. The composition commemorates the third act of imperial liberality (liberalitas tertia) and reflects the elaborate multi-figure reverse types characteristic of Hadrianic coinage from the Rome mint.
