(Translation: Imperator Caesar Traianus Hadrianus Augustus. Supreme commander (Imperator), Caesar, Trajan Hadrian, emperor (Augustus).)
Reverse description The goddess Fortuna stands in full figure facing left at center of the field, draped and turreted, holding a rudder set upon a globe at her feet with her right hand and a vertical sceptre or standard with her left. The composition conveys Fortuna's role as the divine embodiment of fortune and providence guiding the empire. The encircling legend P M TR P COS III is distributed around the periphery within a dotted border, referencing Hadrian's titles as Pontifex Maximus, holder of Tribunician Power, and Consul for the third time. The reverse type belongs to a well-attested series struck at Rome in the early years of Hadrian's reign, displaying the crisp, high-relief die-cutting consistent with metropolitan production of this period.
