| Obverse lettering | IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG (Translation: Imperator Caesar Traianus Hadrianus Augustus. Supreme commander (Imperator), Caesar, Trajan Hadrian, emperor (Augustus).) |
| Reverse description | The goddess Fortuna stands in full figure facing left at center of the field, draped and turreted, holding a rudder set upon a globe at her feet with her right hand and a vertical sceptre or standard with her left. The composition conveys Fortuna's role as the divine embodiment of fortune and providence guiding the empire. The encircling legend P M TR P COS III is distributed around the periphery within a dotted border, referencing Hadrian's titles as Pontifex Maximus, holder of Tribunician Power, and Consul for the third time. The reverse type belongs to a well-attested series struck at Rome in the early years of Hadrian's reign, displaying the crisp, high-relief die-cutting consistent with metropolitan production of this period. |
