| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Hadrian facing right, rendered with fine detail including a short beard characteristic of his portraiture. The emperor's hair is depicted in wavy locks beneath the laurel wreath, with drapery visible at the truncation of the shoulder. The encircling Latin legend reads IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The portrait reflects the classicising Hellenistic influence prevalent in Hadrianic coinage, with a naturalistic treatment of facial features. The coin is struck on a slightly irregular flan typical of hammered Roman imperial silver. |
