| Reverse description | The personification of Clementia (Clemency) stands facing left in flowing robes, her weight elegantly distributed in a contrapposto stance. In her right hand she holds a patera extended over a lighted altar to the left, while her left hand grasps a long vertical sceptre. The composition occasionally includes a column in the background field. The reverse legend, divided between the upper and lower fields, identifies the emperor's titles and the allegorical figure, reflecting Hadrian's early policy of projecting imperial clemency and moderation toward the Roman populace. |
