| Reverse description | The goddess Salus is depicted seated left upon a high-backed throne, her figure draped in flowing robes rendered with careful detail. In her extended right hand she holds a patera from which she feeds a large serpent coiled around an altar positioned before her. The composition conveys the Hadrianic programme of imperial beneficence and public welfare, with SALVS AVG prominently displayed in the exergue and lower field. The legend encircling the type records Hadrian's principal titles as Pontifex Maximus, holder of tribunician power, and consul for the second time. |
