| Beschrijving keerzijde | The personification of Indulgentia, draped and seated left upon a throne or chair, extends her right hand in a gesture of clemency and holds a long vertical sceptre in her left hand. The figure is rendered in a classical seated pose with drapery falling in carefully incised folds across the lower body. The legend encircles the field in two parts, with INDVLGENTIA AVG P P in the upper arc and COS III in the exergue area below, all within a dentilated border. This reverse type was struck to commemorate Hadrian's acts of imperial clemency and remission of tax debts, a well-documented episode of his reign. |
