Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Hadrian facing right, with a short beard rendered in fine curling strands characteristic of Hadrianic portraiture. The emperor's hair is depicted in layered waves beneath the laurel wreath, conveying both imperial dignity and the Hellenistic aesthetic favored by this ruler. The circular legend reads HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The relief is boldly modeled, with strong facial features including a prominent brow and well-defined chin. The flan is irregular in shape, typical of hand-struck Roman silver coinage of the second century AD.
