Obverse description Bare-headed, laureate and draped bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered with fine detail including a short, neatly trimmed beard characteristic of Hadrian's mature portraiture. The emperor's hair is styled in the classicising Hellenistic manner with short, layered locks pressed close to the skull. The circumferential legend HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS P P runs around the periphery of the flan. The portrait displays the high-relief modelling typical of the Roman mint's finest Hadrianic issues, conveying imperial authority and philosophical gravitas.
