| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, with neatly rendered wavy hair and a short beard characteristic of his portraiture, the drapery visible at the truncation of the neck. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine classical workmanship typical of the Roman Imperial mint during Hadrian's reign. The circumferential legend reads HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS, distributed around the periphery of the flan. |

| Reverse description | Pontifical emblems of the Roman religious college arranged in the field: at center, a prominent apex (the conical cap of the flamen) surmounted by a small knob, flanked to the left by a lituus (augur's curved staff) and to the right by a simpulum (ladle used in sacrifices); in the lower field, a horizontal securis (sacrificial axe) lies beneath the grouping, referencing Hadrian's role as Pontifex Maximus. The legend COS III is disposed around the upper field, commemorating Hadrian's third consulship. The reverse field is plain and the design is boldly struck. |
