| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare head of Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus (Pompey the Great) facing right, depicted with characteristic dishevelled hair rendered in deeply engraved strokes, a prominent brow, and a bearded jaw, conveying a rugged military portrait in the late Republican tradition. The legend CN·MAGNVS IMP arcs around the effigy — CN·MAGN to the right and IMP to the left — identifying the subject as Gnaeus Magnus, Imperator. The portrait, though somewhat roughly executed in the field style typical of Spanish military coinage, retains strong individualising features consistent with known likenesses of Pompey. The entire design is contained within a border of dots. |
