Galba's reign lasted seven months. The VICTORIA P R types were struck almost immediately after he seized power in June 68 AD, serving the urgent propaganda need of a general who had just overthrown Nero and needed the legions — particularly those he hadn't commanded — to accept his legitimacy. The mint of Rome was still being reorganized after Nero's debasements, which partly explains the inconsistent fineness seen across Galba's silver output.
He was murdered on the Palatine in January 69, opening the Year of the Four Emperors.
