Obverse description Bare head of Emperor Galba facing right, depicted with the characteristic aged and lined physiognomy known from his portraiture, set within a plain field. The laureate effigy is rendered in the realist tradition of late Julio-Claudian and early Flavian portraiture, with closely cropped hair and a strong jawline. The surrounding Latin legend reads SER GALBA IMP AVG, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The die work is competent if somewhat hastily executed, consistent with the pressured output of the Rome mint during the turbulent Year of the Four Emperors.
