Obverse description Emperor Galba depicted in military dress as an equestrian figure, riding at full gallop to the right, his right arm extended and levelling a javelin. The bold, dynamic composition conveys imperial military authority in the tradition of Roman adventus and military propaganda types. The legend encircles the field, identifying the emperor by his full titulature. The flan is notably irregular in shape, characteristic of the hasty emergency coinage struck during the tumultuous Year of the Four Emperors.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering SER GALBA IMP AVG
(Translation: Servius Galba Imperator Augustus Servio Galba, supreme commander (Imperator) and emperor (Augustus).)
