Obverse description Emperor Galba depicted in military dress, shown as an equestrian figure riding left on horseback, with his right hand extended in a gesture of salutation or address. The figure is rendered in the bold, somewhat rustic style characteristic of the Spanish mint issues of the civil war period of 68–69 AD. The surrounding Latin legend reads GALBA IMPER, identifying the emperor as Imperator. The coin displays the irregular flan and vigorous die-cutting typical of hastily produced military coinage struck during the revolt against Nero.
